What this measures: Counts people served by a regional center, not everyone with the condition. One person can have several diagnoses, so these counts cannot be added together. Figures cover the center's whole catchment area and are not split by county.
To ask SARC for an evaluation: Early Start intake (under 3) · regional center intake (3 and older).
Caseload by status
Everyone on SARC's caseload at the end of each month, from DDS's Monthly Consumer Caseload report. This counts people of every age and every qualifying condition, not only autism.

The line breaks where DDS has no usable report: the files DDS posted between November 2022 and April 2024 all repeat the June 2022 report, so those 19 months are left empty rather than filled in.
What this measures: Everyone on the regional center's caseload at the end of the report month, by DDS status: intake (status 0, being evaluated), Early Start (status 1, under age 3), active under the Lanterman Act (status 2), state-operated (status 8) and provisional eligibility (status U, children under 5). DDS redacts cells of 1 to 10 people and builds its totals by rounding each redacted cell to the nearest ten, so a total can differ from the true count by a few people per redacted cell. Regional centers report for their whole catchment area, never by county.
To ask SARC for an evaluation: Early Start intake (under 3) · regional center intake (3 and older).

What this measures: Fiscal year July to June. People counted are those active in January of the fiscal year or with any purchased service during it; someone who moved between regional centers can be counted at both. Spending covers services the regional center bought from vendors (purchase of service), not its own staff. Per-person spending divides by everyone counted, including people with no purchases, and is not adjusted for age or need: centers serving more adults in residential care spend more per person. DDS suppresses small cells. DDS changed how race and language are recorded late in FY 2024–25 and advises caution comparing those groups across years.

To ask SARC for an evaluation: Early Start intake (under 3) · regional center intake (3 and older).
Other qualifying conditions on record
A person can have more than one of these diagnoses, so the rows overlap. Adding them up would count some people twice.

How to apply, step by step
- SARC contracts with outside providers for Early Start assessments, and the right number depends on your county.
- For Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties, call Stars Infant Development at 1-844-700-9889 or use the 'STARS Assessment Request' link on SARC's Early Start page.
- For Monterey County only, call Trumpet Behavioral Health at 1-831-443-1279 (fax referral line (831) 424-5566).
- The email address sarcintake@starsinfantprogram.com appears only on the DDS Regional Center Listings page, not on SARC's own page; DDS lists it for the Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Benito intake.
- The same DDS listing also shows earlystartintake@bluesprigpediatrics.com in SARC's fax field, with no explanation, so it is not used here.
- DDS's county-by-county Family Resource Center page still lists different, apparently older intake numbers: Santa Clara (800) 404-5900, Santa Cruz (855) 370-3588, San Benito (831) 630-2525.
- This file uses the numbers on SARC's own page, which match the DDS Regional Center Listings page.
- SARC says assessment, eligibility, and the IFSP are completed within 45 days of first contact.
- Family Resource Centers: Santa Clara, Parents Helping Parents (855) 727-5775; Santa Cruz and San Benito, Special Parents Information Network (831) 722-2800; Monterey, Special Kids Connect (831) 372-2730 (DDS name; SARC's page calls it 'Special Kids Crusade').
